Monroe Elementary School was built to replace a cluster of buildings originally constructed in the 1940's and 1950's and last added to in 1978. The new school shares a 102 acre site with Monroe Area High School.

The school's main entrance opens into the Lobby featuring a 24-foot high ceiling with exposed steel structure and clerestory windows. The Lobby's height and roof outline were intentionally designed so to create a clear indication of the building's main entrance.
