Leaders rally behind fired library director

Several community leaders are organizing a protest of Broward County's decision to fire Alicia Antone as executive director of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center.

Antone, who turned 46 on Thursday, was fired Jan. 2 from the $67,000-a-year job after serving in that capacity for about a year. County and library officials would not discuss a reason for the termination.

A coalition of local leaders, including Lauderhill City Commissioner Hayward Benson, is holding meetings and making plans to demand Antone's reinstatement in front of the county commission on Tuesday.
