Major investment in composite materials plant pledged as Airbus puts engineering giant top of bidders' list
BRITISH aerospace industry leaders have welcomed Airbus' selection of GKN as the preferred bidder to take over its Filton wing manufacturing site in Bristol. The decision has allayed fears that the Filton site was to fall into the clutches of a foreign firm.
The deal will see GKN invest hundreds of millions of pounds in new composite materials facilities at the site. The agreement will also result in around 1,800 Airbus manufacturing staff being transferred to GKN later this year.
