TEN-year-old Maya (Abigail Breslin of Little Miss Sunshine) emerges from a sex education class with chilling words directed at her dad: "We need to talk."
Thus Will Hayes (Ryan Reynolds), a contemporary Madison Avenue ad man, finds himself on the eve of his divorce obliged to explain the facts of his own life to his offspring.
Talk they do. Maya demands to know the circumstances of Will's relationship with Maya's mom. Will tells the story of his early love life, but changes the names of the players so that Maya must guess which of the women he loved before is her mom.
