Personnel from Maritime Civil Affairs Squadron (MCAS) 1, based in Imperial Beach, returned Feb. 11 after completing a week of regional, cultural and language training on Southeast Asia at Old Dominion University in Virginia Beach.

The course was designed to prepare MCAS-1 Maritime Civil Affairs Teams (MCATs) to operate in the U.S. Pacific Command area of responsibility. During the course, MCAT personnel examined the physical geography, language, cultural, and religious aspects of the countries that make up the South East Asia region.
