Nevada has adopted a series of new laws directing at domestic violence and sexual assault, giving victims more protections and expanding police access to criminal data.
One new law, AB 112, requires police to hold for at least 12 hours any individual under the influence of alcohol or drugs arrested for violating a protection order.
The 12-hour prohibition on bail extends to individuals arrested for stalking or harassment while intoxicated from drugs or alcohol and any individual with a prior restraint order even though the judgment is no longer in effect.
The state has also enacted a law, AB 482, barring police from mandating the victim of any type of sex crime take a polygraph test.
