David Barnard, currently chief operating officer of iQmetrix, an information technology company, and formerly president and vice-chancellor of the University of Regina, was named the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Manitoba. The appointment takes effect July 1 for a five-year term. Dr. Barnard studied computer science at the University of Toronto before joining the faculty of Queen's University, where he eventually held the position of associate vice-principal. He then moved to the University of Regina, first as vice-president, administration, and then as president from 1998 to 2005.
