Introduction

The Reserva Ecológica de Macaé de Cima is located in the Serra do Mar and belongs to the municipality of Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro state, southeast Brazil. The reserve is covered by Atlantic Forest, with altitudes varying between 880 and 1720 m (Lima & Guedes-Bruni 1994).
