Article: Moose Jaw finds its sense of pride

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - The construction of a downtown spa and casino has transformed this city of 32,000 residents in many ways.

Most obvious are the physical changes. A decade or so ago, Main Street in Moose Jaw looked much different than it does today. Instead of bustling sidewalks and a wide variety of unique shops, bars and restaurants, the heart of the city was marked by boarded-up storefronts and heritage buildings falling into disrepair.

"Main Street used to look like an old man without half his teeth," said Ron Walter, a veteran reporter with the Moose Jaw Times Herald, who has covered civic affairs for more than 20 years.
