The German and French Contribution to Corrupting the Oil for Food-Programme

Between 1999 and 2002 more than 2300 companies from all over the world made illicit payments to the Iraqi government adding up to 1.8 billion US-Dollars. This was in spite of the fact that the UN-Security Council had sanctioned the country with an embargo. The article discusses the contribution of German and French enterprises into corrupting the Oil for Food-programme. For this purpose the transactions in the sales of Iraqi oil and in the purchase of humanitarian goods are analysed separately.
