WINNIPEG'S river skating trail was open almost twice as long as Ottawa's this winter before it closed Monday -- adding to bragging rights for the "dweebs in snowsuits" who outdid the capital city earlier this winter by creating the longest skating rink in the world.
Paul Jordan, chief operating officer for The Forks, said it was time to close the skating trail on Monday after a layer of slush built up on the ice. Now workers are busy taking trees, sheds and other items off the ice.
"We don't have the longest skating trail anymore, we have the longest slush trail," joked Jordan, dubbed a dweeb by his Ottawa competitors.
