The office of Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., issued the following news release:
In a declassified letter sent to Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell, Senator Evan Bayh is calling on the intelligence community to broaden the scope of the next Iraq National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) to assess the impact of a broader range of U.S. policy options.
Bayh noted that the August 2007 NIE did not look at realistic troop drawdown proposals and did not adequately inform the national conversation on Iraq.
"I was disappointed that past Iraq NIEs have posited scenarios inconsistent with a correct scope of options being debated by the Congress and indeed the public at large," he wrote.
