The office of the Washington, D.C., Mayor issued the following news release:
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and city officials gave an update on the status of the five-alarm fire that destroyed most of an apartment building in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood early this morning. Fenty applauded the work of the agencies and outlined the assistance available to the residents who lost their homes and belongings to the fire. The fire, at 3145 Mount Pleasant Street, also damaged much of Meridian Hill Baptist Church and part of 3149 Mount Pleasant Street, both of which are adjacent to the building.
