In their ongoing battle for supremacy in Southern California, the Angels won a recent skirmish with the Dodgers.
The Halos got the better Aybar brother.
Erick Aybar goes to spring training as the top candidate to replace shortstop Orlando Cabrera, who was traded to the White Sox. The Angels are poised to receive a big return on the $100,000 signing bonus they gave Aybar in 2002.
"Erick Aybar has the ability and the talent to be a special player," manager Mike Scioscia says.
