New York, March 23 -- Children with chronic insomnia lose a lot more than their sleep as they tend to have more personal problems, says a new research.

Persistent insomnia has been linked to a wide range of physical, psychological and interpersonal problems, says the study by researchers at the University of Texas.

The researchers, who found a "two-fold to five-fold" increase in personal problems among adolescents with persistent sleeplessness, surveyed 3,134 children between 11 and 17, ScienceDaily reported.
