Analysis of Chinese settlement in Australia has normally followed a simple path-arrived in the 1850s Gold Rush-spread elsewhere following gold-opposed by the unions and public opinion-excluded by the 1901 Immigration Restriction Act-dying out as a marginalized minority-revived by Colombo Plan students-increasing rapidly with the ending of White Australia in the 1970s.
