Ancient and Modern Art in a Tropical Garden
Well, the works themselves are not ancient but this kind of art, botanical prints, has a recorded history beginning in the 6th century with the publication of a Byzantine manuscript in Vienna. Two years ago, Oxford University presented an exhibit, A New Flowering: 1,000 years of Botanical Art, which grouped old images from the Oxford libraries with modern examples. It is difficult to determine which illustrations were created 10 years ago, which 1,000 years ago.
