Article: STATE SCHOOLS CHIEF O'CONNELL CONGRATULATES LONG BEACH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ON BECOMING FOUR-TIME BROAD FINALIST

The California Department of Education issued the following statement:

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell today congratulated Long Beach Unified School District on being named a national finalist for the prestigious 2008 Broad Prize for Urban Education. This is the fourth time that the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation has selected Long Beach Unified as a finalist for the prize that honors urban school districts for making the greatest progress in raising student achievement.

Long Beach Unified won the Broad Prize in 2003 and has been a finalist every year it has been eligible for the award.
