Families of Guard and Reserve members who participate in Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) may be paying 45 percent too much for their health care, according to a recent government report sent to Congress. Reservists with single coverage may be paying 72 percent higher than average cost.
In December, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a report after a review of TRS costs. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 required the report. GAO examined DoD analyses, interviewed DoD officials, and talked with "external experts," including ROA.
