Boissevain has Tommy the Turtle, Gladstone has its Happy Rock and Glenboro has Sara the Camel.
Without our own recognizable icon, the City of Brandon is looking into the idea of creating its own sign or statue to represent the city.
After Coun. Doug Paterson (Assiniboine) raised the question at the city council table back in 2006, they decided to set aside $10,000 to look into the idea.
Economic development officer Sandy Trudel has researched the idea and will submit a report to council with recommendations later this month.
Trudel said communities tend to put them up to distinguish themselves from other communities and to attract visitors.
