Article: REP. SHAYS URGES DOD TO LIMIT USE OF STOP-LOSS POLICY

Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn. (4th CD), issued the following news release:

In a letter to Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Robert Gates Friday, Congressman Christopher Shays (CT-4) reiterated concern about the use of "stop-loss," or forced extension of the length of time members of our military serve in-theatre.

In January 2007, Shays authored a letter cosigned by 3 Republican colleagues urging Gates to limit the involuntary extension of soldiers' tours. Despite Secretary Gates issuing a directive to reduce the use of stop-loss, the numbers of troops forced to remain in the Army has increased since August 2007.
