Article: Florida, Pennsylvania Inventors Develop Ceramics Hybrid Structure Manufacturing Method

ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 25 -- Gary B. Merrill and Steven James Vance, both of Orlando, Fla., Jay A. Morrison of Oviedo, Fla., and Michael A. Burke of Pittsburgh, have developed a ceramic hybrid structure manufacturing method.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of manufacturing a hybrid structure having a layer of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) material defining an interior passageway and a layer of ceramic insulating material lining the passageway. The method includes the step of casting the insulating material to a first thickness required for effective casting but in excess of a desired second thickness for use of the hybrid structure."
