In 1991, the hand-carved harp of a young girl was stolen. Her mother, Elizabeth Lloyd Mayer, a psychoanalyst and university professor, was advised to consult a dowser. In desperation, Mayer phoned the president of the American Society of Dowsers who soon provided her with the name of an obscure street in Oakland, California, as well as a description of the house where the stolen harp had been hidden.
