Article: TWO PORTLAND WOMEN AWARDED PERDITA HUSTON PURPLE STARFISH AWARD

University of New England issued the following news release:

The Maine Women Writers Collection at the University of New England awarded the 2008 Perdita Huston Purple Starfish Award to Khadija Guled and Jenna Vendil, both of Portland, Maine preceding the annual NAACP Excellence in Education ceremony held on April 18, 2008 on the Portland Campus of the University of Southern Maine.

The award honors the memory of Portland, Maine native, journalist and Peace Corps activist Perdita Huston. It is given annually to young (under 30), emerging women leaders who strive for a more vibrant and culturally diverse society in the state of Maine.
