On completion of this article, you should be able to (1) describe recent trends in the epidemiology of Q fever, including the increasing incidence in the United States; (2) identify the variable presentations of Q fever and the proper use of serology in confirming the diagnosis; and (3) interpret serologic follow-up after acute Q fever to determine when further work-up and treatment for infective endocarditis are necessary.
