Capital Schmozing
In a year when non-gebrachts croutons are making their debut, the kitniyot question has finally come to my front door. (Gebracht! refers to matzah or matzah meal mixed with water - something that some Jews do not eat during Passover.)
There are five grains forbidden to be fermented during Passover. They are wheat, barley, spelt, oats and rye. These grains may only be eaten as matzah and matzah may only be made with these grains during Passover.
So how about those matzah cereals - and pastas? They are all made withmatzah "meal."
The Orthodox Union Passover" Kosher guide notes that all O.U. endorsed products for Passover are free of kitniyot ("little things" - additional ...
