The University of Wisconsin-Stout issued the following news release:

Call it a lucky break for Desiree Nardini Scholl. If the former University of Wisconsin-Stout soccer player hadn't suffered a serious ankle injury, maybe she wouldn't have gone on to become the first graduate of UW-Stout's growing applied science program to make it through medical school.

But Scholl, bad ankle and all, just completed her studies in podiatric medicine at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Ill. She returned to UW-Stout Thursday to talk to students who are following her through the applied science program.
