The red carpet was rolled out Wednesday night for the Manitoba premiere of the film adaptation of Margaret Laurence's novel The Stone Angel.

Thousands of Canadians were introduced to the story of the formidable Hagar Shipley in Can-Lit classes. Hundreds who loved it turned out for a special screening of Kari Skogland's screen adaptation, which was shot in Manitoba.

"I hope all the lovers of the book will feel the same way about the movie," said producer Liz Jarvis with Winnipeg's Buffalo Gal Pictures.
