Ultrasound-Guided Interscalene Brachial Plexus Block in a Patient With a Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt

Interscalene brachial plexus block (IBPB) offers excellent postoperative analgesia and several advantages in patients having shoulder surgery.1,2 Prior to ultrasoundguided nerve blocks, a ventriculoperitoneal (V-P) shunt may have been considered a contraindication to IBPB due to the potential for damage to the indwelling V-P shunt.
