Washington, May 17 -- Now that the California Supreme Court has overruled a state law banning gay marriage, daytime host Ellen DeGeneres is getting to swap vows with girlfriend Portia de Rossi.

The 50-year-old DeGeneres made the announcement on May 15 during a taping of her daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

In the episode scheduled to air on May 17, studio audience members greeted DeGeneres' news with thunderous applause and a standing ovation as De Rossi watched from the sidelines.
