TOTAL LIGHTNING SIGNATURES OF THUNDERSTORM INTENSITY OVER NORTH TEXAS

Total [intracloud (IC) and cloud-to-ground (CG)] lightning data have given several insights into thunderstorm kinematics, dynamics, and microphysics over the last decade. These data have a greater temporal and sometimes spatial resolution compared to radar data, which has led to further understanding processes, such as vertical wind development, that are directly linked to severe weather phenomena (large hail, damaging straight-line winds, and tornadoes).
