Philip Ficsor on American Double and "The Bolcom Project"

A word on how this interview and feature piece came to be. Robert Maxham, Fanfare's regular contributor of interviews with violinists and reviews of violin repertoire releases, was first in line to receive this assignment. Unfortunately, due to personal family matters he was unable to accept the invitation, and I was asked to pinch hit. Maxham's expertise in this area is well recognized; and while our opinions on what constitutes the "ideal" in violin-playing often diverge, I read his reviews religiously and always respect what he has to say. It is therefore my hope that this interview and review will please him.
