The city of Virginia Beach issued the following press release:

In 2007, Virginia Beach saw increases in visitor spending, direct revenue and the number of jobs created by the tourism industry. Approximately 2.73 million overnight visitors arrived in Virginia Beach in 2007, spending a record $889.9 million dollars - an increase from the $857 million visitors spent in 2006. Visitor expenditures generated $78.4 million in taxes and fees paid to Virginia Beach from those industries having direct contact with visitors. The visitor spending was also responsible for generating 11,000 jobs in Virginia Beach. The figures, released today as the city begins its summer season, are included in the ...
