WASHINGTON, May 30 -- Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, has introduced the Access, Compassion, Care, and Ethics for Seriously Ill Patients Act (S. 3046), legislation that would "amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to create a new conditional approval system for drugs, biological products, and devices that is responsive to the needs of seriously ill patients."
The bill, introduced on May 21, was co-sponsored by Sens. Robert P. Casey, D-Pennsylvania; Norm Coleman, R-Minnesota; Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania; and James M. Inhofe, R-Oklahoma. It was referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.
