Article: Phoenix Mars Lander returns images, puts tools to work on Red Planet

Washington, May 30 -- NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander, which touched down on the surface of the Red Planet on May 26, is returning more detailed images of Mars and is now preparing its instruments for science operations.

The latest image to be transmitted from the Phoenix is a 360-degree panorama of the frigid Martian world.

"We've imaged the entire landing site, all 360 degrees of it. We see it all," said Phoenix principal investigator Peter Smith, from University of Arizona, Tucson. "You can see the lander in a fish-eye view that goes all the way out to the entire horizon," he added.
