The office of the Oakland Mayor issued the following news release:
During a budget discussion between area elected officials and community representatives, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed to Mayor Ron Dellums' request for the state to extend California Highway Patrol deployment on Oakland streets. The request came as the first year of the program comes to a close.
Speaking to Governor Schwarzenegger at the end of his opening remarks, Mayor Dellums said, "Back in August when we had a spike in crime and violence here in Oakland.
