Long-term excessive alcohol consumption is the most common risk factor for the development of chronic pancreatitis. Management of patients with alcohol-associated chronic pancreatitis can be complicated by problems associated with dependency, psychosocial burden, and physical changes like malnutrition and hepatic insufficiency. The records of 372 consecutive patients who underwent lateral pancreaticojejunostomy (LPJ, n = 184), pancreatoduodenectomy (PD, n = 97), or distal pancreatectomy (DP, n = 91) for chronic pancreatitis were retrospectively analyzed.
