Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M. (3rd CD), issued the following news release:
U.S. Representative Tom Udall, D-N.M., today supported a plan to provide nearly ten times as much funding for a key rural education initiative in New Mexico. H.R. 3058 would have increased New Mexico's share of Secure Rural Schools (SRS) funding from $2.3 million to roughly $20 million per year. It failed, however, to reach the two-thirds threshold for passage under special rules by a vote of 218-193.
"This legislation promotes the principle that every student should have an equal chance to fulfill their potential, regardless of where they grow up" said Udall. "In rural New Mexico school districts we need these additional ...
