Article: METS RECEIVES $480,000 GRANT TO PURCHASE HYBRID BUSES

The city of Evansville issued the following press release:

The City of Evansville has been awarded $480,000 to be applied toward the purchase of three new hybrid buses, which will bring the total in METS' fleet to eight.

When you consider that the price of diesel has risen more than 50% in the last year to more than $4 a gallon, hybrid buses have certainly helped keep the City's costs down. METS says the five hybrids currently in its fleet use about 2000 fewer gallons per bus per year. At present prices, that is $8,000 per bus for a total savings of approximately $40,000.
