Axens Gets Design Package for Saudi Aramco, Total JV Refinery

French company Axens announced last week it has been awarded a design package for the 400,000 b/d refinery Saudi Aramco and Total are building in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

Axens and its partners are designing a 32,000 b/d vacuum diesel fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) and an aromatics complex that will produce 700,000 metric tons per year of paraxylene and 143,000 tons per year of benzene.

The FCC unit will be designed to produce at least 10 weight percent propylene. The aromatics complex will include a 68,000 b/d naphtha hydrotreater and a continuous catalytic regeneration reformer for producing gasoline blend stock and mixed xylenes.
