Edward Weston "Nude" $1.6 million, Sotheby's

A photograph by Edward Weston, titled "Nude" and taken in 1925, sold for $1.609 million at a sale of The Quillan Collection of 19th and 20th Century Photographs held April 7 by Sotheby's in New York City. It was a new record for the artist at auction. Also, Paul Strand's photo titled "Rebecca" (1923), soared to $645,800 (also a new record for the artist at auction); August Sander's photo titled "Werkstudenten" (1926), realized $493,000 (also a record); and Richard Avedon's "Marilyn Monroe, May 6, 1957, New York City" brought $457,000 (another record).
