Collector: Ruth Womac Passion: Compacts

RUTH WOMAC IS 86 years young. That's an old expression, to be sure, but in her case, it's the truth. One chat with Womac, and it's obvious she has a zest for life matched by few others. This vigor carries over to her collecting passion-compacts.

"When I was about five or six years old, I had two sisters who were what you would call Oappers.' At that time, practically all women carried compacts for their face powder, and they gave me my first couple of compacts," she explained. "Like a lot of things, you could pay as much or as little as you wanted for them-$.50 to $1.00 for a nice one."
