Introduction
Tendons are soft connective tissues, which connect muscle to bone and form a musculo-tendinous unit, whose primary function is to transmit tensile loads generated by muscles to move and stabilize joints. The biomechanical properties of tendons can be attributed to the highly defined organization of their extracellular matrix (ECM). ECM of tendons is primarily composed of collagen I, and is organized in a hierarchy of bundles that are aligned in a parallel manner in a proteoglycan matrix.
