In 2007, the mineral industry remained a strong and diverse component of the Texas economy (Fig. 1). Annual job growth in natural resources and mining, reported by the Texas Labor Market Review, increased 7.7 percent from December 2006 through December 2007, increasing almost 1 percent from 2006. And construction-job annual growth rate increased by 2.1 percent.

Arnold Tanner of the U.S. Geological Survey Minerals Information Team provided preliminary data for 2007 Texas industrial mineral production.
