Powder River Basin (PRB) coal spot prices rose an average $3.30/t ($3/st) in 2007. The growth was a 50.4-percent increase from $7.45 to $11.18/t ($6.75 to $10.15/st) for 8,400-Btu coal and a 40.7-percent increase from $9.22 to $12.98 ($8.37 to $11.78/st) for 8,800-Btu coal. Between January and June, average coal spot prices increased 7.8 percent for 8,400-Btu coal and 4.7 percent for 8,800-Btu coal. From June through December, average coal spot prices increased 21.6 percent for 8,400-Btu coal and 21.1 percent for 8,800-Btu coal.
