REP. UDALL PROTECTS NEW MEXICO'S RAILWAYS

Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M. (3rd CD), issued the following news release:

U.S. Representative Tom Udall, D-N.M., today supported the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act, which authorizes funding for Amtrak, the nation's passenger rail service. More than 114,000 passengers used Amtrak stations in New Mexico in Fiscal Year 2007, and Amtrak payed almost $4 million in salaries to New Mexicans. Several Amtrak routes, including the Sunset Limited, the Texas Eagle and the Southwest Chief, run through New Mexico. Amtrak has not been reauthorized by Congress since 2002.
