BLACK SUPERHEROES are few and far between. Next month Will Smith aims to prove that black action characters can be a big box office draw.

He plays Hancock, an alcoholic anti-social superhero with extraordinary powers.

Comic books have always been big business and have provided escapism and entertainment for children and adults alike all over the world.

However, black characters have been sparse, and often portrayed in a negative and stereotypical way.

Comic book writer and creator of DC Comic's first black superhero Black Lightning, Tony Isabella, told New Nation how he created the character after becoming disillusioned with negative stereotypes
