The office of Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., issued the following news release:
Senator Norm Coleman today sent a letter to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner Douglas Shulman requesting him to increase the 2008 optional standard mileage rates to better reflect the higher cost of business, medical and moving related travel. Adjusting the rate will especially benefit working Minnesotans and small businesses as they struggle with soaring gas prices. Since January, regular conventional retail gas prices have gone from $3.09 to $3.98, a 29 percent increase.
