Composite panel industry reacts to CARB ruling

The toughest production standard in the world for formaldehyde emissions will begin to go into effect in January 2009.

The California Air Resources Board has completed the toughest standard in the world for formaldehyde products from composite wood products. The Composite Panel Association has been working with the industry for six years on this important issue.

In April 2007, CARB voted to implement new limits for formaldehyde emitted from composite wood products. The new limits will go into effect in two phases beginning Jan. 1, 2009. Final limits will take effect in 2012. Cabinets, flooring, furniture, store fixtures, millwork and other items using composite panels will be included.
