Long a center for adult/students of English as a second language, Mt. Lebanon Public Library's partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council as a tutoring center and with Mt. Lebanon School District ESL teachers led naturally to the development of the library's award-winning program. Judith Sutton, head of Children's Services, and Connie Mathews, children's librarian, began thinking about the children of adults learning English at the library. "We have had a real increase in population, particularly from Eastern Europe and Asia ... so we decided we would work with the school district to reach these families," said Sutton.
